Retirement Planning Among Financially Vulnerable Workers
This project investigates the psychological and contextual factors that hinder or facilitate retirement planning among populations who bear disproportionate personal responsibility for their own retirement.

In many contexts, workers bear disproportionate personal responsibility for their retirement — whether because they lack employer-sponsored pensions (e.g., the self-employed) or because national social security systems provide inadequate coverage. This project examines the psychological and contextual factors that hinder or facilitate retirement planning in these populations. It comprises a scoping review mapping who has and has not been studied in the retirement planning literature, three surveys of British and Dutch self-employed workers (N = 1,213), and a survey of Indonesian employed workers navigating an underdeveloped national pension system (N = 689).
